Initial Thoughts on the Reflective Throw Bag

I recently picked up the 31M Water Rescue Throw Bag Kayak Reflective Throwline Portable Floating Rope Rescue Throw Bag with Rope for Buoyant, hoping to have a reliable safety backup for my kayaking trips. Having buoyant safety gear is crucial out on the water, especially when paddling solo, so I was keen to test out this throw bag and its included reflective throwline right away to ensure everything was up to par before relying on it in a real emergency.

My initial trial run was meant to be a simple deployment test in the lake. I wanted to check how easily the rope deployed from the portable bag and see if the floating quality was sufficient. Unfortunately, I ran into an immediate issue.

After just one quick test deployment—where it barely interacted with anything besides the water—I pulled the rope back in and was disappointed to see how quickly it had frayed and tangled. It honestly looked like it had been used roughly for weeks, not seconds. Other buyers seem to feel similarly, as I noticed feedback suggesting that this rope configuration appeared defective right out of the box, which certainly mirrors my own unsettling experience with the initial trial use.

Given how quickly the rope degraded during that brief, controlled test, I really can’t speak to the positive features like portability or the reflective aspect because the core component—the rope itself—failed my basic expectations for durability. The build quality of the actual bag looked sturdy enough, and the concept behind having a buoyant throwline is excellent for safety, but the material integrity of the line seems extremely suspect.

If you are looking for robust, reliable rescue gear, I would strongly urge caution here. Based on my experience, I do not recommend purchasing this specific item until the manufacturer addresses the significant durability issues noted with the line. For critical water rescue gear, you really need something that holds up to even the lightest strain.

Save your money and look elsewhere for a dependable floating rope rescue throw bag.
